Exfoliating is the process of removing inactive cells from the skin’s surface. The skin should renew itself naturally every 20 to 30 days, but due to the aging of cells, lifestyles or hormonal imbalance, the skin on the surface is not completely released. As a result, the skin is left with keratinized areas (on the elbows, heels), dry and / or with clogged pores. There are several possible solutions to help the cell renewal process and today I will talk to you in a simple, fast and extremely effective way: exfoliating the skin with a brush. – body brush.

Regularly exfoliating your skin is an important routine for your skin and can make all the difference for maintaining skin healthy but also for enhancing the results of other body treatments, such as weight loss and anti-cellulite treatments.

There are several methods, the most usual being the use of physical agents with mechanical action with specific products (granulated cosmetics, with salts, sand grains, coffee grains, among others) but chemical agents using specific products with enzymatic action can also be used, which can still be natural, such as cosmetics with fruit acids. Exfoliation with a brush is, as the name implies, the technique of using a brush, with natural bristles treated and adapted for the effect (usually from cactus), to exfoliate the skin of the entire body. 7 steps to exfoliate your skin with a brush – the method:

If this is new to you, do not worry, it is easy, just follow these steps!

  1. Start by purchasing a good quality brush, the bristles should be natural, firm but not too aggressive.
  2. It is important that the skin or brush does not get wet, the exfoliation must be done dry.
  3. Choose a time of day when you know that you will be able to “fit” this step easily into your routine (ex: before bathing is most advisable)
  4. Start at the feet and work your way up towards the thigh, passing the brush over the skin with sliding movements (as if you are patting), always in an upward direction (towards the heart). After the legs, move to the abdomen and finish in the arms, always with the same rule. The pressure should not be exaggerated and areas of more sensitive skin or wounds should be avoided. The skin will be pink but should not be irritated.
  5. Insist a little more on the problem areas (thighs, abdomen)
  6. After exfoliating your entire body, take a shower, preferably with cold or warm water.
  7. Finish with your favorite cream, if you still have time you can apply it with massage movements.

How to care for your skin exfoliation brush:

Because the bristles are natural, they should not be wet. To clean once a week immerse the tips of the bristles in a bactericidal solution (water and tea tree essential oil for example) and let them dry with the bristles up in a dry and airy place (sun exposure is allowed).
