"Brush exfoliation: innovative method for a beautiful and healthy skin!"

Exfoliating is the process of removing inactive cells from the skin’s surface. The skin should renew itself naturally every 20 to 30 days, but due to the aging of cells, lifestyles or hormonal imbalance, the skin on the surface is not completely released. As a result, the skin is left with keratinized areas (on the elbows, heels), dry and / or with clogged pores. There are several possible solutions to help the cell renewal process and today I will talk to you in a simple, fast and extremely effective way: exfoliating the skin with a brush. – body brush.

Regularly exfoliating your skin is an important routine for your skin and can make all the difference for maintaining skin healthy but also for enhancing the results of other body treatments, such as weight loss and anti-cellulite treatments.

Exfoliation with mechanical effect: sea salts

Exfoliating your skin has several benefits:

  • Improves the appearance of the skin, leaving it more luminous
  • Enhances the action of treatment creams by increasing absorption
  • Prevents ingrown hairs
  • Stimulates the production of collagen, mainly responsible for skin elasticity

Still not convinced about the importance of exfoliating your skin? Read on to understand the existing methods and their benefits!

Ideally, you should exfoliate your skin weekly at home and at least once a month and use professionals for a deeper exfoliation. There are several methods, the most usual being the use of physical agents with mechanical action with specific products (granulated cosmetics, with salts, sand grains, coffee grains, among others) but chemical agents using specific products with enzymatic action can also be used, which can still be natural, such as cosmetics with fruit acids. Another way to exfoliate the skin in a natural way is with a brush.

Brush Exfoliation at CitySpa

Dry Brushing or Brush Exfoliation, have you heard of this yet? Exfoliation with a brush is, as the name implies, the technique of using a brush, with natural bristles treated and adapted for the effect (usually from cactus), to exfoliate the skin of the entire body. This type of exfoliation is carried out dry, without the association with any product and are suitable for any type of skin. If we brush our teeth and  our hair … why not brush our body?

3 Advantages of exfoliating the skin with a brush:

In addition to the exfoliation benefits described above, the use of the brush gives us extra value that resembles that of a massage. Brush exfoliation is a habit that can and should be incorporated into your daily routine, see why:

1. Helps to remove dead cells

The passing of the brush bristles through the skin, loosens the dead cells leaving the skin smooth and soft.

2. Increases the circulation of the lymphatic system and eliminates toxins

The liquids that circulate in the body pass through the lymph nodes to be filtered, some debris, can be retained and cause blockages. Exfoliation will facilitate this movement, while it frees the pores to facilitate perspiration, and with it, it eliminates toxins.

3. Helps fight Cellulite

Since it has similar benefits to massage, this technique is a good ally in preventing cellulite, also helping to improve the texture and firmness of the skin.

7 steps to exfoliate your skin with a brush – the method:

If this is new to you, do not worry, it is easy, just follow these steps!

  1. Start by purchasing a good quality brush, the bristles should be natural, firm but not too aggressive.
  2. It is important that the skin or brush does not get wet, the exfoliation must be done dry.
  3. Choose a time of day when you know that you will be able to “fit” this step easily into your routine (ex: before bathing is most advisable)
  4. Start at the feet and work your way up towards the thigh, passing the brush over the skin with sliding movements (as if you are patting), always in an upward direction (towards the heart). After the legs, move to the abdomen and finish in the arms, always with the same rule. The pressure should not be exaggerated and areas of more sensitive skin or wounds should be avoided. The skin will be pink but should not be irritated.
  5. Insist a little more on the problem areas (thighs, abdomen)
  6. After exfoliating your entire body, take a shower, preferably with cold or warm water.
  7. Finish with your favorite cream, if you still have time you can apply it with massage movements.

How to care for your skin exfoliation brush:

Because the bristles are natural, they should not be wet. To clean once a week immerse the tips of the bristles in a bactericidal solution (water and tea tree essential oil for example) and let them dry with the bristles up in a dry and airy place (sun exposure is allowed).

If during the pandemic you move less, eat more (and often unhealthy) and also not being able to attend your much-needed detoxifying exfoliations at your Spa, makes it even more important to adopt daily habits that help to lessen the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle and that help to increase your self-esteem.
